Repairs And Rehabs
Habitat for Humanity of Worcester County completes critical repairs and rehabs for existing Worcester County homeowners who are otherwise unable to complete the work themselves or obtain a conventional loan to do so. Each family must be approved during the application process, and the project itself must be approved by a Scope of Work which determines the scale of the project, Habitat's capacity to complete the work, and the homeowner's ability to pay for the work needed. Habitat may enlist the assistance of a third-party funder such as the USDA for financing options for critical repairs. In very limited circumstances, options may include a combination of loans and grants.
The below programs are the only active Critical Repair Programs planned for 2022. When inquiring during an application round, please make sure that your project would qualify under one of these programs.
A Brush With Kindness
We participate in the national Habitat exterior repair program, A Brush With Kindness. The Brush With Kindness Program is an exterior repair program and work can include painting, gutters, siding, porch and stair repair, landscaping, etc.
We have recently partnered with TidalHealth, Wicomico Habitat, and Chesapeake Housing Mission for the EXHALE project, an asthma control program. Tidal Health was recently awarded grant funding that will be used to identify, educate, and address asthma triggers, or trigger producing conditions in eastern shore homes. Habitat Worcester will address critical housing repairs that will improve quality of life for asthma sufferers and are specific to roof repairs. Referrals will be made to Habitat by Tidal Health's community health workers. Requests that come directly to Habitat Worcester and are related to asthma/EXHALE will be referred to Tidal Health for health assessment.
Please note - a referral made from Tidal Health is not a guarantee for approval for construction services. All prospective applicants must also meet Habitat criteria for critical repairs.
Veterans Build Initiative
Habitat for Humanity of Worcester County is proud to announce that our affiliate is now part of HFHI's Veterans Build Initiative. We began seeking applicants from veteran families in need of critical repairs to owner-occupied homes during our April 2021 application round and continue to accept Veterans Build Initiative applications during open application rounds.
Habitat Worcester's Planned Application Rounds for Critical Repair Programs in 2022 are as follows:
January 1 – January 31, 2022
April 1 – April 30, 2022
When applying, please make sure the request for repairs fall within the parameters of the program. Funds are limited for these programs and at times may be unavailable. Prospective applicants will be informed when they send initial inquiry via email during each funding round, if funds are available.
