July ReStore Volunteer of the Month

Jim Martin is Habitat for Humanity of Worcester County’s ReStore Volunteer of the Month.  Martin volunteers two mornings a week.  His duties include processing new donations, merchandising, assisting customers, and using his carpentry skills to build display fixtures.

“We’re fortunate to have Jim as a part of our ReStore team.  He attended our Volunteer Recruitment night and has been with us ever since.  We look forward to the days Jim volunteers because he has such a great attitude and an even better sense of humor,” says Linda Myers, the Restore Volunteer Coordinator.

Martin provided a particularly valuable service Habitat for Humanity this summer by taking two student volunteers from Stephen Decatur High School under his wing.  The students were in a county program to gain work experience through volunteering, and Martin taught them basic skills and supervised their projects.

Martin humbly declined to be photographed for this article, preferring the focus of the recognition to reflect on the mission of the ReStore.

The ReStore is a non profit home improvement store and donation center that sells new and gently used furniture, appliances, home accessories, building materials, and more to the public at fraction of the retail price.  Proceeds go to Habitat for Humanity of Worcester County, and are used to help build strength, stability and self-reliance through shelter for local families. The Habitat ReStore is located at 9026 Worcester Highway in Berlin and is open Wednesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Beginning August, 21, 2019, the new ReStore hours will be Wednesday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Volunteers are always needed; please contact volunteer@habitatworcester.org to get involved.
