Employment Opportunity - ReStore Manager

General Position Description:
To manage the marketing and sales of donated furniture and appliances and surplus building materials in order to ensure the generation of funds in support of Habitat for Humanity of Worcester County’s mission-specific initiatives. The Manager is responsible for the operation, financial reporting, inventory procurement and management, staffing, and volunteer co-ordination of the new ReStore.

Specific responsibilities include:

New Store Set Up:

  • Oversee the build out of the retail space and layout of the sales floor
  • Purchase and set up of the POS/POP system
  • Oversee the procurement of the donations truck including insurance, routine maintenance, license, etc.
  • Responsible for the hiring of the ReStore staff
  • Responsible for developing the donations/inventory process from the point of first contact with the donor, to pick up, merchandising of items, and tracking of inventory
  • Responsible for ensuring that accepted items are clearly defined in the ReStore Operations Manual
  • Ensure that the store follows the branded ReStore guidelines set forth by HFHI
  • Create the action plan for opening from set up, to donations procurement, to grand opening with clearly defined dates that are adhered to
  • Responsible for revenue and expense, donations, and volunteer goals during the opening process
Operations:

  • Run the operation with the recognition that the ReStore is often one’s first impression of Habitat for Humanity.
  • Ensure store is adequately staffed with employees and volunteers; schedule pickup and deliveries to optimize use of truck and volunteers
  • Ensure quality of customer service is provided and grievances are handled professionally
  • Ensure proper maintenance of facility, equipment and vehicles
  • Ensure volunteers and staff adhere to policies and procedures as set forth in the ReStore Operations Manual, as approved by the Board of Directors
  • Maintain up-to-date filing system and proper record retention
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and accident procedures
Staff & Volunteer Management

  • Implement and maintain personnel policies approved by the Board of Directors
  • Hire, train and manage ReStore staff and volunteers in accordance with personnel policies; ensure they are well versed about Habitat, our programs and local activities
  • Create recruitment and recognition plan for ReStore volunteers; track all volunteer hours
  • Facilitate a positive, team-oriented environment in which all staff and volunteers are given the opportunity to achieve their full potential
  • Resolve situations involving volunteers or staff in consultation with the Executive Director
  • Evaluate staff performance in accordance with job descriptions, and complete performance evaluations
Reporting and Communications

  • Provide weekly report of activities to the Executive Director
  • Provide monthly sales, expenses, projects and public relations activities including staff, operational and financial matters in monthly report to Executive Director and Board of Directors
  • Ensure that staff meetings are held on a regular basis
  • Ensure donor and volunteer recognition program is adhered to
  • Develop and maintain relationships with businesses and community partnerships for purposes of donations, volunteers, and sponsorship opportunities
  • Attend ReStore manager training at HFHI headquarters in Atlanta
  • Join in monthly ReStore conference calls with other affiliate ReStore leadership
  • Attend continued education opportunities via webinars, regional and national conferences
Finance and Administration

  • Monitor systems for daily cash transactions and deposits
  • Maintain accurate accounting records of revenue and expenses
  • Approve employee timecards
  • Approve and code payable invoices
  • Ensure monthly expenditures are within budget
  • Work in conjunction with the Executive Director and Finance Committee to develop annual operating budget and recommend capital expenditures
  • Complete payroll reports and submit to the Executive Director
  • Complete required financial reports and submit to the affiliate accountant
  • Responsible for meeting revenue and expense, volunteer, and donations goals on a quarterly and annual basis
Policy and Planning

  • Ensure policies for sales, salvage, material acquisition and staffing are adhered to
  • Development of marketing and advertising strategy for ReStore
  • Revise strategies as needed to meet monthly, quarterly, and annual goals
  • Monitor competitive merchandise market environment (pricing and practices)
  • Develop and implement short- and long-term strategies, goals and objectives
Required Skills/ Experience / Physical Requirements

  • Self-motivation
  • Must have prior retail management experience
  • At least 5 years upper level management experience in a big box store or similar retail business, with a proven track record of success
  • Experience developing a successful retail business from the ground up is a plus
  • Ability to lead, train and manage volunteers and staff in a positive manner
  • Knowledge of the primary inventory items including furniture, appliances, flooring, construction materials, and understanding on how to effectively sell and market such inventory
  • Strong organizational, managerial, and people skills
  • Ability to resolve conflict
  • Ability to work within the community at large in an outreach capacity to develop relationships on behalf of the ReStore and Habitat for Humanity
  • Effective written and oral communication skills
  • Technology and software skills required: POS/POP systems, email, Microsoft Office with a focus on Excel, Quickbooks, social media, and working knowledge of database management
  • Ability to adapt to a changing environment and unexpected shifts in priorities
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds. Work may require climbing ladders, considerable standing, bending, kneeling and reaching, and lifting in awkward and tiring positions
  • Understanding of Habitat for Humanity and its mission
Compensation: Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. Benefits include PTO and health insurance stipend.
